Think about what your gift recipient might be collecting. Your alternatives here are endless:

  1. Branded international merchandise localized for Saudi Arabia. That may be stuff like Harley Davidson t-shirt or Starbucks city mug.

  1. Get some stamps from the Saudi Post office, or buy a few postcards. Better yet, send a real postcard from the post office (or from your hotel, a receptionist will do it for you).

  1. Yes, magnets. I collect them from every city I’ve been to. My fridge door has little empty space left.

  1. Saudi coins (not necessarily golden). You might be interested to read the history of the Saudi currency on the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency website. Meanwhile, the country is in the process of designing new coins with the help of a French company.
  2. Speaking about coins, the souvenir spoon (which might also be a good idea for a gift from Saudi Arabia) in the middle of the below photo is made of a Saudi coin. Such spoons are called bowl spoons and there are collectors for them.
