The deep-rooted culture of the Arabian majlis is blended into the Saudi Arabs’ mentality. For this reason the beautiful cultural tradition of social gathering and hosting guests was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Majlis, or “place of sitting” in Arabic, has converted over centuries from a Bedouin tent with floors covered with palm fronds, set aside for social gatherings. Palm mats were eventually replaced by handmade carpets woven by Bedouin women from camel, sheep or goat wool, and comfortable cushions against the walls. This space was used to receive visitors and socially interact in a relaxed manner, sipping Arabic coffee.
